Abstract

Two types of thermal barrier coatings prepared by EB–PVD and PS respectively present surface wrinkling after service. This characteristic is different from that of conventional interface rumpling in that both top coat and bond coat develop undulation. In order to explain the behavior of TC fracture, a new wrinkling mode is established and analyzed through numerical simulation. It is believed that undulation wavelength affect the stress field and fracture location of TC.
