Alkali Corrosion Resistance of Anodic Oxide Coating on 6063 Aluminum Alloy

Abstract

For the aluminum alloy extruded profiles for architecture, the alkali corrosion resistance of its anodic oxide coating is an important index for evaluating its quality. In this paper, the corrosion potential measuring instrument developed by authors was used to test the alkali corrosion resistance of the anodic oxide coating with different thicknesses on the premade aluminum alloy architectural profiles, and the corrosion potential during the test process was tested. The morphologies of the samples after the corrosion test were also analyzed by using the optical microscopy and the scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results show that for the 6063 aluminum alloy, with the increase of its anodic oxide coating thickness, the time of the alkali corrosion resistance increases. As the corrosion potential reaches 1 mV, the corrosion morphologies of the samples with different coating thicknesses are almost the same.
